The Closed on Sunday AI trend, explained
The Closed on Sunday AI trend remakes one shot: a single figure standing perfectly still in the middle of a huge choir while everyone around them sways, claps and sings. The shot is the ending of Ye's 2019 "Closed on Sunday" music video. In October 2026 creators started remaking it with AI, swapping the person in the middle for themselves, a kitten in armour or a dog, and the choir for cats, skeletons or anything else.
Closed on Sunday AI in one line: you stand still and serious, mouthing the song, while hundreds of singers go wild around you.
What happens in a Closed on Sunday AI video
The scene is one continuous shot of about 14 seconds on a pale desert hillside in bright sun. The camera looks down over a packed crowd in plain beige robes. In the exact centre stands one person, taller in the frame than anyone else, who does not move: no clapping, no swaying, just a calm face and the song on their lips. Around them the choir sings at full volume, lifting their hands, leaning back, clapping on the beat, so the stillness in the middle is what your eye locks onto. The AI versions keep that contrast and change who stands and who sings.
If you only remember "the video where everyone sings and dances around one person standing still", "the Kanye choir video" or "the one with the cat in the middle of the cat choir", this is the one. People search for it as Closed on Sunday AI, the Closed on Sunday choir or the Sunday Service choir trend.
Where the Closed on Sunday scene comes from
- November 27, 2019. Ye announces a music video for "Closed on Sunday", a track from his album Jesus Is King, on Twitter.
- November 28, 2019. The video premieres on Thanksgiving. Directed by Jake Schreier and filmed on Ye's ranch in Wyoming, it follows the family across open country and ends with Ye standing still in the middle of his Sunday Service choir while they sing the closing chorus around him.
- July 2, 2023. @lyricsdidit posts a lyric edit of the ending on TikTok. It passes 800,000 views and keeps the scene in circulation.
The song, the video and the Sunday Service name belong to their owners. This site and the AI videos are fan remakes of one shot; we are not connected with Ye, Sunday Service or the makers of the video. More on the song and its meaning: the Closed on Sunday meme.
How the Closed on Sunday AI trend started
- October 14, 2026. @bellvtrix_ai posts the cat choir: the original on top and, below, a kitten knight with angel wings standing still in a sea of singing cats, made with Higgsfield Genjutsu. The caption offers a tutorial to anyone who comments "MEOW".
- October 14, 2026. @downey.ai posts a human remake under the caption "Might've started a new trend", with the original on top and a man in a green vest among pale blue robes below.
- October 14, 2026. @battos13 shares a CapCut template of the scene, so anyone can drop a clip into it.
- October 15 to 17, 2026. AI template sites add their own versions, and "closed on sunday ai" starts appearing as a Google search suggestion.
Dates and view counts come from the posts' own data, read through TikTok on 2026-10-17. They are the posts we could check, not a complete history; earlier versions may exist.
Why the choir shot works as a trend
It has one hero and a crowd, so swapping the hero is instantly readable: a grandmother, a cat or your boss in the middle is funny in the same way. The stillness is the joke, so it works even with the sound off, and the gospel chorus is recognisable with the sound on. The crowd is also a costume rack: dress it as cats, skeletons or penguins and it becomes a new video without touching the person in the middle. That is why the first AI versions were already pets and other species within a day.
How people make a Closed on Sunday AI video
Three routes are common. General AI video tools such as Higgsfield Genjutsu take a reference clip, a photo and a prompt, and often need a few tries to keep the person in the middle and the crowd moving. The CapCut template is free and quick, but it places your existing clip over the scene rather than filming you inside it. One-photo makers like this one have the scene built in: you add a photo, pick a choir, and get the finished shot with you singing along to the song. Our step-by-step guide covers photo tips and posting, the choir page shows every crowd you can pick, or go straight to the Closed on Sunday AI video maker.
